Afghan beauticians were chanting in the

capital today protesting the Taliban

footage obtained by the BBC shows

Taliban soldiers employing tear gas and

water cannon to try to disperse the

women following the Taliban Takeover in

August 2021 Afghan women faced a

multitude of imposed restrictions on

their freedoms and activities

their educational aspirations were

confined to primary schools or access to

universities blocked and their ability

to appear freely in public severely

restricted even the simple Act of using

public bath houses a common practice in

the country has been denied to them

the decision to shut down the beauty

salons was announced three weeks ago

in this bad economic situation a lot of

money were wasted in these here salons

also it is against the Sharia according

to the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce

the decision will affect more than sixty

thousand women many of whom are the sole

earners in the family

by launching a hair salon I became the

sole earner in the family now with this

ban we are going to be jobless I'm

asking for the Taliban now how would

they want us to survive

today the women were determined to stay

put
