something we haven't talked about at all
on this channel and that's mouthwash and
there are so many reasons why we have to
have this discussion everything from the
microbiome of your gut to your hormonal
profile is affected by mouthwash so I
want to dive into the good the bad the
ugly and what your alternatives are so
let's dive in okay for starters I want
you I want to help you think this
through the first thing to think about
is that digestion starts in the mouth so
when we are upset because we're getting
bloated we're upset because we're
constipated we're not loving the way
that our digestive system is working the
first thing I want you to think about is
what is going on in the health of my
mouth so there are many ways we can look
at the health of the mouth but on this
video I really want to talk about the
bike bacterial profile in your mouth so
when you are chewing food each time you
chew there are there is a microbiome in
the mouth of that good bacteria that
help you break down that food and so
there are two things that you've got to
do to make sure the digestion in the
mouth works perfectly the first is you
got to take time to chew your food so
when we chew a couple one or two chews
we swallow and we go about our day uh
you're not getting proper breakdown of
that food and then what will happen is
if you don't digest the food in your
mouth it gets sent on to your stomach
and in your stomach if it's not
pre-digested by the mouth this is where
it can actually start to ferment so
those of you that have been struggling
with candida sugar Cravings alcohol
cravings those of you that are
struggling with with bloating maybe even
a little bit of sibo you've got to think
about pre-digesting your food and first
by chewing properly early and chewing
enough so that it all those enzymes in
your saliva all those good bacteria in
your mouth can actually start to break
that food down so it can move on to the
second place of digestion which is your
stomach with that in mind let's think
about this microbiome in our mouth so
there are literally bacteria in your
mouth that are helping you pre-digest
food so when we use anything
antibacterial whether it's toothpaste or
mouthwash what we're doing is we're
killing all those bacteria so even if
you chew a ton and you actually take
your time to chew your food if you don't
have the right bacteria in your mouth
it's not getting pre-digested there so
it's very much like what we've chatted
about on this channel a lot which is
we're not because of antibiotic use for
women because of years on birth control
use we don't have the right amount of
bacteria in our gut to break down the
food once it hits the small intestine
and large intestine so my biggest
complaint about antibacterial
mouthwashes is they kill the health of
your microbiome so that's that's the
number one thing I want you to know
about mouth bar second thing is that
mouthwash has a tendency to dry out your
mouth so I want you to think about this
for a moment why would your body have
saliva like what is the purpose of
saliva well one is to pre-digest your
food so in the saliva we've got those
microbes that are helping you break down
that food but the second purpose of your
microbiome is to add or of your mouth is
to re-mineralize your teeth so you need
mint plenty of minerals in your teeth to
keep your teeth strong so if you are
using chronically using mouthwash you're
drying out that saliva which is not only
affecting the microbes but it's
affecting the minerals that can get into
your teeth that's the second reason I'm
not a fan third reason I'm not a fan and
this is through my hormonal lens and
this is you know all of these are big
but this one for especially my women out
there are trying to balance your hormone
is that there's a lot of endocrine
disruptors in mouthwash the biggest one
the biggest endocrine disruptor is a
parabens so in conventional commercial
mouthwash there are toxins in it and
those toxins there's many of them the
one that irritates me the most are
parabens parabens we can find in a lot
of beauty products we can find in our
plastic water bottles and these parabens
go into receptor sites for estrogen and
your cells start thinking that it has
the proper amount of estrogen and
especially for my menopausal women when
we get these endocrine disruptors in the
cell when the this estrogen mimicres
clogging up these receptor sites now
your whole hormonal production goes off
and the challenge that we have with
mouthwashes most of you are using it
every day so it's not like you use it
every once in a while you're using it on
a regular basis so we're killing the
microbes that we need for pre-digestion
we are affecting the minerals that go
into our teeth and drying our mouth out
and we are creating massive amount of
endocrine disruptors that start to clog
up our estrogen progesterone
testosterone receptor sites slowing down
your body's production of those hormones
so think about this for a moment like
those of you that are craving sugar you
crave alcohol and you can't seem to get
over it maybe that's a fungus that's
living in that gut and if you're not
digesting food in your mouth it's going
down to the gut and the gut and it's
creating a fermentation in there and the
more fermentation in the gut the more
you're allowing that fungus to continue
to grow and the more that grows fungus
can grow the more it's going to give you
signals to eat more sugar let's talk
about what we can do for great breath
okay I gotta interrupt this video
because I have a free guide for you so
you can Master fasting it's called a
beginner's guide to a fasting lifestyle
and all you've got to do is click here
and you can jump right in so the first
and one that I really like that's very
natural and easy to do you don't do it
all the time but it's it's it's a great
one for just wiping the microbial sleep
slate clean in the mouth and allowing
the good bacteria to grow killing off
the bad bacteria that might be in the
mouth and that's coconut oil pulling you
literally take coconut oil and you put a
tablespoon in your mouth and you swish
it around like that and just swish it
around ideally 10 to 20 minutes and what
it will do is to kill the bad bacteria
but leave the good bacteria whereas the
mouthwash is killing all the bacteria in
your mouth so start oil pulling and
remember what is causing your bad breath
oftentimes is the bad bacteria so if you
oil pull on a regular basis now we start
to see that we are having the positive
effect of the good microbes and getting
rid of the bad so that would be my first
alternative second alternative that I
think is really important to think about
is what's going on with your gut if your
gut health is completely off then it's
going to actually come out through your
breath you're gonna if you're
chronically having bad breath needing
that mouthwash to fix your bad breath
you're it's you're just putting a
Band-Aid on a bigger problem and the
bigger problem is that you have
potentially gut dysbiosis going on
that's causing this smell to come out of
your mouth as gross as that is so what
do you need to do to fix your gut
dysbiosis there's a there's a lot of
things of course fasting I wrote about
this in the in fast like a girl there is
a gut reset fast in there highly
recommend that if you've got a chronic
issue with bad breath just throw some
24-hour fast at your at your body maybe
once a month maybe once a quarter to be
able to start to change the microbial
dynamics that are going on in your gut
so think about that and then I also talk
a lot in fast like a girl about the
three three peas polyphenol probiotic
and Prebiotic foods and how important
those are to really fuel the good
bacteria so the good bacteria can win
making sure that the bully bacteria the
bad bacteria in your gut goes away so if
bad breath as an issue start thinking
more about your gut health another
aspect of gut health that I really want
to emphasize is the power of bone broth
so bone broth has glycine in it and so
it's really healing to the inner lining
of your mucosal lining of your gut so I
if you have bad breath think about every
time you fast think about breaking it
with bone broth because that combination
is so powerful when you go into these
longer fast you go more towards like a
24-hour fast you're killing off the bad
bacteria and then you take a cup of bone
broth what you're doing is you're adding
the nutrients in there to start to
repair this inner lining of the of your
mucosal gut lining and if that inner
lining is good think of it as like a
foundation for those good microbes
inside your gut so it's a lifestyle
solution when you start to look at what
you can do to repair the gut so your
breath isn't bad so if you're having bad
breath it really is a time to look at
your gut microbiome so that would be one
of my hacks there and then of course the
last hack well there's a couple last
great hacks if you're like going into a
meeting and you're like okay well I
don't have time to fix my microbiome I
don't have time to oil pull and that's
where you can start to use some
essential oils now the challenge and
this is going to get really nuanced but
this is what I'm doing here on my
channel is really helping to teach you
is that when peppermint actual flavor of
peppermint is antimicrobial so even a
peppermint essential oil can change the
bacterial profile in your mouth so this
is a hack that actually my husband
taught me that his mom used to do and I
think this is one of the greatest hacks
because it's a Prebiotic in fact it's
the best Prebiotic out there and that is
fresh of just take a whole clove and
chew on on a clove you're gonna have
like a really fresh breath and it's a
Prebiotic so it's going to allow the
good microbes in your mouth to really
proliferate and it's something you can
put in your mouth right before you go
into a meeting before you go on a date
when you want that fresh breath and
you're not using peppermint as as a tool
as this is does have an antimicrobial
effect okay if you loved this video
you're going to want to check out the
next video of my food series I on this
video want to talk about the healthy
foods that you might be eating that will
stop you from a long and healthy life
